Name: Loras Tyrell Door: Left. Canon: Game of Thrones. Canon Point: Post- Season Six. Age: 27. Appearance: Link. History: Link. Personality: It is obvious to see that he's both arrogant and spoiled. As heir to one of the wealthiest houses in Westeros (and being heralded as it's most Eligible Bachelor), he is used to this sort of attention. Loras is handsome and he knows it. This, combined with his wealth as well as his name, has fed into his privilege. Though he's shown that he has no issue with putting in effort to obtain something - he's spent his while life training to be as good a knight as he is - he prefers it when he simply gets what he wants. In his personal life, he is introverted and aloof. He's bad with small talk and can be awkward in social gatherings.
Loras is quick to let his mood turn. His temper has a habit of taking over, almost always in a petulant, nearly childish, way. The first instance we see of this is when we finally see Loras bested in battle by Brienne of Tarth. Believing himself to the be the best, his pride takes a strong blow when she beats him, and when she's granted a spot on Renly's kingsguard, Loras feels not only humiliated but also offended. Mostly, of course, he is jealous. Loras is accustomed to his place as the center of attention. Other examples of this pettiness can be seen when he insults Robb Stark for not having the decency to come meet with them himself, and when Jaime Lannister tries Loras about his promised marriage to Cersei. In cases of feeling seriously offended, Loras' response is to storm away from the situation. While his common defense is to say something biting or catty, it would appear Loras can dish it out better than he can take it. The only time his temper becomes confrontational is when he feels he's legitimately threatened.
His downfall is his flippancy. Because he has always had his status to protect him, he's grown lazy and careless when it comes to the consequences of his actions. Beyond openly flirting with other men, Loras is quick to invite his squire into his bed and speaks quite openly to him, without knowing very much about him. He admits to having no regard for discretion anymore after several years in King's Landing. Loras, while being quick witted, is certainly more beauty than brains. He's never been the one to make the plans, just the one to help follow through.
Before all of this, though, Loras is quite broken. Having spent the last few months of his life under duress and a degree of mental torture, it's he who says of himself, "I'm guilty of depravity, dishonesty, profligacy and arrogance." He's admitted to his own weakness, that while he is reckless and impulsive, he draws his strength from others rather than himself. His life has been turned on its head and it will take time for him to find himself again.
Yet Loras has, locked away inside, many good traits for someone from Westeros. He is loyal and determined. He's shown his dedication to his passions by admitting to working every day to be as good with a sword as he is. He's also very much a romantic, having imagined his dream wedding since he was boy, and he is very kind. He shows genuine sincerity in the way he approaches others, even extending his kindness to those that may not deserve it.
Powers and Abilities:
Skilled knight. Loras is a highly accomplished tournament knight, the youngest to compete and win. He’s also proven himself on the battlefield.
Showmanship. Not only the games. Loras is almost always putting on a show or a facade any time he’s in public.
Persuasion. This is a Tyrell family trait. He knows what people want to hear, and while he’s not as good at it as his sister, he can exercise his own sway on them.
Adaptability. Over the years, as circumstances changed, he has had to revise his allegiances and tactics to ensure the Tyrells stayed prominent and relevant.
