Youngest son to a wealthy family, Loras has always been fortunate that he's never had to worry about taking up the family business. Agriculture, he thinks, has never quite suited him. As a child, he would rather pass the time with his sister, playing grand adventures and dreaming of possibilities beyond the family mandate.

He took to sport quite easily. While loving the idea of wrestling or rugby or any number of "rougher" games, Loras discovered a knack for something with a bit more finesse. It had only taken a small amount of convincing for his parents to allow him to take up fencing. How fortunate for them all, when the young Tyrell boy had a gift for it. It wasn't long before he thought to make a career of it. It's been a lucrative choice, to say the least (even if his grandmother insists it's all silly games and he ought to grow up) - with a few prestigious awards under his belt and a couple Olympic bids, Loras thinks he's been doing quite well for himself.
All without having to learn the most cost effective ways to grow crops.
